Qualcomm has announced the successor of Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the new 4nm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chipset, likely to feature in several upcoming mid-range smartphones. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chipset was unveiled at an event in China.
This new chipset offers a speed of 2.91GHz, up to 50% improved performance, 2x better GPU, and 13% better power efficiency than its predecessor, claims Qualcomm.
For dual 5G/4G SIM support, Qualcomm has integrated the Snapdragon X62 5G modem in the new chipset. The chip can reach up to 4.4 Gbps speed, thanks mmWave and sub-6Ghz 5G connectivity.

Qualcomm also claims that the company’s new AI Engine offers 2x better AI performance and up to 40% better performance per watt. The Quick Charge 5 can reach 0-50% in five minutes.
The Gen 2 chipset is capable to play games and supports devices featuring a QHD+ display at 120 FPS, along with aptX for better gaming audio.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 has an 18-bit Triple ISP, which can capture over 4,000x more camera data, along with 18-bit RAW photo capture.
The first device with the new chipset is coming this month, the chipset “will be adopted by key OEM brands including Redmi and realme.”
