Owners of Fitbit wearables will now need to migrate their signup to a Google account. This is not new for those who have been using Fitbit devices for a long time. As Google announced last fall that all Fitbit users would eventually have to migrate to Google accounts.
Google accounts on Fitbit
As per the information, the existing Fitbit users will have the option to start logging in using a Google account this summer. Additionally, this is not instant implementation and users aren’t required to move to a Google account immediately, but will require to do so by 2025.
On the other hand, if you’re a new Fitbit user, then you’ll be required to register with a Google account this summer. Moving on, Google is arranging the new login requirements to promote the convenience of users, as it’ll allow them to use one password for both services instead of two separate accounts.
In addition, the company also says that users will be able to manage their Fitbit data from the Google Privacy Center, which is going to be more relevant to utmost privacy. As for data privacy, Google says that Fitbit data will remain separate from Google Ads data and will not be used for targeted ads.
To be mentioned, nothing is going to change much, the only aspect you will notice is the advancement of the services. Once after logging into the Fitbit wearable with your Google account, you will have the same Fitbit experience with all your historical health, wellness data, and more.
However, the migration process will start rolling in the summer, and users will see a prompt in the Fitbit app, or you will be able to see the options in app settings, to migrate to logging in with a Google Account. Thus, it will also allow you to review your existing setup before you move.
