WhatsApp will soon let you hide IP address in calls, but there’s a catch

WhatsApp is readying a new privacy tool that will let you hide your IP address in calls. The company is developing this capability to enhance call security by routing them through its servers. Eventually, scammers won’t be able to determine the user’s location after enabling this feature.

According to the inputs, the company is currently rolling out the ‘hide IP address in calls’ function to a limited number of beta testers with the WhatsApp Android beta 2.23.18.15 version via the Google Play Store. While there is time for a stable release, let’s learn about this new feature.

The information reveals that the significant function will lie within the privacy call settings screen. When available, users would be able to see a white-colored toggle on the respective page. Things sound perfect until the feature prompts a sentence – ‘This will reduce call quality’.

Yes, enabling this feature will slightly affect the call quality. However, it is due to encryption and routing processes through WhatsApp servers. Thus, we can expect that the company will resolve this problem in the time ahead.
