Apple iPadOS 17 will hit the stable version in the coming days and in the meantime, some analysts are eagerly delving into the software’s new offerings. As per the revealings, Apple iPadOS 17 will finally support an all-new Game Boy camera for video calls.
Eventually, Federico Viticci from MacStories dived into the depth of the Apple iPadOS 17 software and found that it can effectively support the Game Boy Camera for FaceTime video calls. Notably, the major iPad upgrade is supportive of UVC devices that let you connect external cameras to the iPad.
Adding more details, the tech nomad said that developers need to adopt a specific API to read video input from handy gadgets connected via USB. Federico further mentioned in his story that no regular person will ever need to use this, but it’s still a fun and nerdy accomplishment.
“There I was, performing gestures in front of a Game Boy Camera in 2023 to test video capture and FaceTime on an iPad Pro. None of this makes sense, and no regular person will ever need to use this. Yet, the fact that everything worked as it was supposed to gave me a strange sense of peace and nerd satisfaction. If this ridiculous thing can work, perhaps the iPad is going to be okay after all.”
