Android 15 is going to be the next iteration of Google’s operating system, which is expected to arrive with bundles of significant features and capabilities to take the experience to the next level. Meanwhile, new report suggests that Android 15 could also force some apps to go edge-to-edge by default.
As per the details of Android Authority, the QPR2 Beta 3 version of Android 14 indicates a new app compatibility which changes the name to EDGE_TO_EDGE_BY_DEFAULT with the description: “make the app go edge-to-edge by default if the target SDK is VANILLA_ICE_CREAM or above.”
Notably, the Vanilla Ice Cream here could be the internal dessert name for Android 15, which means we can expect that this new mode change will be applied to apps that target this year’s upcoming release. If this change were to go live in Android 15, then it would impact the UI of your favorite apps.
