Key Points:
- Quick Share to get a troubleshooting feature for finding nearby devices.
- The new button will suggest steps to make devices visible.
- Change in Quick Share settings removes the toggle for “Who can share with you”.
Quick Share is a simple and fast way to transfer large files between Android devices. However, it can be frustrating when Quick Share can’t find nearby devices and doesn’t explain why. Luckily, Google is working on an improvement to help users solve this issue easily.
A look inside the latest Google Play Services update (version 24.31.33) shows an upcoming feature for troubleshooting nearby device issues. As shown in the screenshots, a new “Don’t see the right device?” button will appear in the Quick Share settings. Tapping this button will provide a list of steps that the recipient can follow to make their device visible.
The suggested steps include:
- Unlocking the phone.
- Bringing the phone within 3 feet of the sender.
- Enabling Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
- Setting Quick Share’s discoverability to “Everyone”.
These steps might be basic for experienced users, but they will be very helpful for new users of Quick Share.
Additionally, another change spotted in Quick Share settings removes the toggle next to the “Who can share with you” option. This means users will have to go into the “Who can share with you” menu to turn off the “Visible to nearby devices” option, adding an extra step.
We hope Google decides not to make this change, but we are excited about the new troubleshooting feature. We’ll keep you updated when these changes are widely released.
