Apple’s latest update, iOS 18.1, is seeing an adoption rate twice as fast as last year’s iOS 17.1 rollout, according to CEO Tim Cook. In a recent interview with CNBC, Cook attributed this uptick to the exciting new Apple Intelligence features, which have sparked high user interest. While Apple hasn’t released exact installation numbers, this is the first look at how quickly iOS 18 has taken hold among iPhone users compared to iOS 17.
Released just this week, iOS 18.1 introduces Apple Intelligence capabilities designed to enhance usability and productivity across iPhone models, particularly for the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the new iPhone 16 lineup. Among the most popular features is the improved Writing Tools function, which offers text proofreading and smart suggestions, making it easier for users to communicate with precision and efficiency. A redesigned Siri also comes with new functionality: users can now engage with Siri visually or use the new “Type to Siri” feature for silent interactions.
The update also includes a “Clean Up” tool in Photos, streamlining photo management and organization with just a tap. Additionally, users will benefit from intelligent summaries and smart reply options that make everyday interactions faster and more efficient.
Looking ahead, Apple is planning to roll out iOS 18.2 in December. This next version is set to introduce the first Apple Intelligence image generation tools, such as Image Playground and Genmoji, which will likely draw even more users to upgrade. These new features demonstrate Apple’s ongoing commitment to integrating advanced AI capabilities that enhance both user experience and iPhone functionality, contributing to this remarkable rate of iOS 18.1 adoption.
