WhatsApp transcribes your voice messages

WhatsApp is making it easier to stay updated with your voice messages. The messaging app has introduced a new feature that automatically transcribes voice messages into text. This means you can quickly read the message instead of listening to it.

How it Works

The transcription process happens directly on your device, ensuring your privacy. WhatsApp doesn’t have access to the audio or the transcribed text.

Language Support

Currently, the feature supports several languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Turkish, Chinese, Arabic, Danish, Finnish, Hebrew, Malay, Norwegian, Dutch, Swedish, and Thai.

Enabling Voice Message Transcriptions

To enable this feature:

  1. Open WhatsApp Settings.
  2. Go to the “Chats” section.
  3. Toggle on the “Voice Message Transcriptions” option.

Once enabled, you can long-press on a voice message and tap “Transcribe” to view the text version.

This handy feature is rolling out globally over the coming weeks.
