Google is gearing up to make its AI assistant, Gemini, more versatile by allowing users to communicate in multiple languages simultaneously. The feature, announced on Google’s support page, will let users interact with Gemini Live in up to two languages. Currently, over 30 languages are listed as supported, but the option to switch or add a second language isn’t active yet. Google notes that updates are being rolled out gradually, so this feature may soon be available to more users.
What’s New in Gemini Live?
A recent update to the Google app (beta version 15.49.40.sa.arm64) reveals an option to choose a second language. However, Google hasn’t provided a specific timeline for a full release, though it’s likely coming soon.
In addition to multilingual support, Google is expanding Gemini’s features on mobile. Previously, Gemini Gems (AI-generated suggestions or content) were only sharable via the web. The company is now testing the ability to share these Gems directly through the mobile app, making it more convenient for users on the go.
A Fresh Look for Gemini
Google has also redesigned Gemini’s contextual overlay, making it sleeker and easier to use. The updated overlay now takes up less space and uses pill-shaped buttons for suggestions, which appear neatly on the left side of the text box.
But there’s more. Google is testing a vibrant new animation for the compact overlay, adding an animated border around the text box and microphone button. The design features Gemini’s signature pink and purple hues, creating a visually striking effect. Unlike the earlier version’s subtle glow, this update makes the overlay much more prominent.
This new look is somewhat similar to the Siri animations introduced in iOS 18.1 but stays confined to the overlay instead of covering the entire screen. While the animation isn’t yet live in the beta release, it may roll out in future updates.
As Google continues refining Gemini, these features highlight its efforts to create a more dynamic and user-friendly AI assistant. Keep an eye out for updates as the company rolls out these exciting improvements.
