Apple releases iOS 18.3, macOS Sequoia 15.3 betas with Genmoji and Home App updates

Apple has released the first developer betas for iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS Sequoia 15.3. These updates arrived just a week after iOS 18.2 and macOS 15.2 were made public. Developers can download the new betas through the Settings app under General > Software Update. Here’s what’s new:

Genmoji Comes to the Mac

One of the major highlights in macOS Sequoia 15.3 beta is the addition of Genmoji. Previously available on iPhones and iPads with iOS 18.2, Genmoji allows users to create custom emoji-like characters by describing them in words. Apple Intelligence then generates a unique Genmoji, which works just like a standard emoji.

  • How to use Genmoji on Mac: Open the emoji picker with Control + Command + Space, or click the emoji icon in apps like Notes or Messages. A new option lets you describe your Genmoji idea, and Apple Intelligence creates it instantly.
  • Genmoji works on Macs with Apple silicon chips (M1 or later) and runs directly on the device for privacy.

iOS 18.3 Adds Robot Vacuum Support to the Home App

Another significant addition in iOS 18.3 is support for robot vacuums in the Home app. Apple first announced this feature during WWDC 2024, but it was delayed from earlier updates.

With iOS 18.3, robot vacuums can now:

  • Be controlled through the Home app (start, stop, change modes, check charge status).
  • Work with Siri commands for spot cleaning or routine tasks.
  • Integrate into automations and scenes, like cleaning schedules.

While this feature is still in beta, its appearance signals that it may be ready when iOS 18.3 launches early next year.

Apple Intelligence Features on the Horizon

Apple continues to improve Siri and other Apple Intelligence tools. While the latest betas focus on Genmoji and Home app updates, future releases, like iOS 18.4 and macOS 15.4, are expected to add features such as:

  • Priority notifications
  • Enhanced contextual Siri functions
  • Personal app automation

Other Betas Released

Apple has also rolled out the following updates for developers:

  • watchOS 11.3 beta
  • tvOS 18.3 beta
  • visionOS 2.3 beta

These updates are currently in testing and are expected to roll out to the public between January and February 2025. Apple may add more features as the betas progress.

Summary: Apple’s latest betas for iOS 18.3 and macOS Sequoia 15.3 introduce key updates like Genmoji for Mac and robot vacuum support in the Home app. These updates focus on improving Apple Intelligence features and enhancing user convenience. Developers can now test these betas, with public releases expected early next year.
