Samsung One UI 7 introduces large folders for better app organization

Samsung’s One UI 7 brings a new feature called “Large Folders,” designed to make managing and interacting with apps on your home screen easier and faster. This enhancement builds on Samsung’s long-standing app folder system, offering a more user-friendly experience.

Enhanced App Management

App folders have been a part of Samsung’s user interface for years, helping users organize apps by grouping similar ones together. For example, you could create a folder for baking apps to keep them in one place, making them easier to find and reducing the need to search through your app drawer.

With One UI 7, Samsung takes this functionality further by introducing Large Folders. This upgrade allows you to expand a folder, improving visibility and making app interaction quicker. You can see up to eight apps directly within the folder without opening it, streamlining access. If more apps are stored, opening the folder reveals the full collection.

How to Use Large Folders

Follow these simple steps to create and use large folders:

  1. Create a Folder:
    • Drag one app over another to form a group.
    • Add more apps to this group if needed.
    • Rename the folder for easy identification.
  2. Enlarge the Folder:
    • Tap and hold the folder you want to expand.
    • Select “Enlarge” from the options.
  3. Shrink the Folder:
    • Tap and hold the large folder.
    • Select “Shrink” to revert it to its original size.

Potential Improvements

The Large Folders feature simplifies the home screen by reducing clutter and making apps more accessible. However, Samsung could enhance this feature by introducing more layout options, such as single-row folders or a larger grid with six or eight columns. These updates could provide users with even more flexibility and customization.

For now, Large Folders in One UI 7 mark a significant improvement in app organization, and future updates might bring additional enhancements to this already useful feature.
