Rumors are coming that Apple is developing an Ambient light sensor that can be embedded under the display of the iPhone. This technology can help Apple to eliminate or reduce the ‘notch’ in future iPhones, Appleinsider reports.
Since the release of the iPhone X in 2017, all iPhone products (except iPhone SE 2) have an ambient light sensor in the ‘notch’ area. A new patent from Apple gives details about the way to embed the sensor under the display. After the technology is installed, Apple will be only one step away to introduce notch-free iPhones.
The ambient light sensor could perform several functions, such as changing the brightness of the display or adjusting the color temperature, by adjusting the light intensity. The sensor can also measure the display quality degradation such as dead pixels.

Although, Apple claims in the patent that the technology is not easy to install under the display. if the operation is improper, the ambient light sensor may consume more space than required. Due to the position of other components in the notch, it may lead to an increase in the error rate of the ambient light sensor.
Apple hasn’t officially said to implant this technology but there are rumors that Apple is trying to reduce the notch. So, we can expect under-display sensors in the upcoming iPhones.
