The Global PC market including tablets closed in 2020, the third continuous quarter of annual growth as exports reached 143.7 million units in the fourth quarter. As a result, total exports grew by 17% in 2020 to 458.2 million units. This is the highest level since 2015.
According to market research firm Canalys report, Lenovo exported 28.8 million and 87.0 million units, respectively, in the fourth quarter.
Behind the best performance of iPods, second-placed Apple filled the gap with Lenovo by exporting 26.4 million Macs and iPods to Q4, bringing the total to 81.4 million units. HP, Dell, and Samsung are in the top 5.
The exports increased to a record of 52.8 million units, totaling 160.6 million units in 2020 and 28% growth in 2019. The holiday season has given a steady boost to tablets. Chromebooks hit another record 11.2 million units in the fourth quarter of 2020, up 287 percent. This is 30.6 million units for the full year 2020.
Apple continues to dominate the tablet market, with Q4 exports up 40 percent to 19.2 million. This is the best iPad performance since the fourth quarter of 2014. Samsung is the second-largest exporter with 9.9 million tablets.

It ranks third over strong holiday demand, shipping 6.5 million tablets. Lenovo’s fastest-growing seller, sales increased 125 percent to 5.6 million units in the fourth quarter. Huawei is the only seller in the top 5 exports that is declining every year. Samsung knocks off Asus to grab fifth place, shipping one million units, 630 percent more than a year ago.
Last year, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Chromebook, the first Chrome OS power laptop with a 4K AMOLED screen. A few months ago, the company released two affordable Chromebooks – the Chromebook 4 and the Chromebook 4+. The Galaxy Chromebook 2, the world’s first Chromebook with a QLED screen, was recently released. The new laptop also has better battery life than the original Galaxy Chromebook.
