IDC announced the global smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2021. The report shows that global smartphone manufacturers shipped 346 million units in the first quarter, a year-on-year increase of 25.5%.
From a regional point of view, each region has shown strong growth momentum, and the highest growth comes from China and the Asia-Pacific region (excluding China and Japan), which account for about half of global shipments, contributing 30% and 28% year-on-year increase respectively.

Samsung regained the number one position with 75.3 million units shipped and 21.8% market share, followed by Apple in second place. Thanks to the booming sales of the recently launched Galaxy S21 and iPhone 12.
IDC said that Huawei fell out of the top five for the first time in many years. The market shares of Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo have all increased from the previous quarter, ranking third, fourth and fifth in the world with market shares of 14.1%, 10.8%, and 10.1% respectively.
