Zeiss ZX1 camera gets face detection autofocus with new firmware update

Zeiss has announced the release of the 1.4 firmware update for the ZX1 camera. As a reminder, this Android-powered model went on sale in October last year. It costs $ 6,000. The update adds face detection AF, the latest version of Adobe Lightroom (version 6.2), and more.

Face detection works in both single and continuous AF modes. Although the ZX1 detects faces in the frame on its own, the user can also explicitly indicate the face on the touch screen.

Added full resolution DNG rendering when viewing images in gallery mode. The update also adds support for the Zeiss ZX1 Companion app for Android and iOS, which provides remote control and live viewing, and georeferencing photos using GPS data from a mobile device.

Other improvements include support for multiple recipients when sharing media via a link or email, auto-complete email addresses when sharing media, and improved language support (French, Italian and Spanish added).

It also improved autofocus performance, reduced sleep mode battery consumption, and added support for special characters in usernames when connecting to FTP servers. The update is available for download directly from the camera via Wi-Fi.
