About 20 Japanese companies, including electronic component manufacturer Ibiden, will cooperate with TSMC to study chip production technology at a research center in Japan.
It is reported that the R&D center will invest 37 billion yen (approximately 337 million U.S. dollars), and the Japanese government will pay half of it.

TSMC said in February that it would spend approximately US$178 million to open a materials research subsidiary near Tokyo. At present, Ibi Power and TSMC declined to comment.
