TSMC invested 12 billion U.S. dollars to build a chip factory in Arizona, the United States. The company’s executives said on Tuesday that the factory had already started construction.
TSMC CEO Wei Zhejia said at the company’s online annual meeting that from 2024, the factory will use 5-nanometer technology to mass-produce chips. The US government provides 54 billion US dollars in subsidies for chip companies to build factories in the United States.
TSMC, Intel, and Samsung are all contenders. It was previously reported that in the next 10-15 years, TSMC plans to build up to 6 factories in Arizona.

Wei Zhejia said that the company has developed a 5-nanometer chip manufacturing technology, which has been licensed to be used in automobiles to support tasks such as AI. It is just that products with this technology are unlikely to alleviate the current shortage of automotive chips because of the current shortage. It is a chip with relatively backward technology.
In addition, Wei Zhejia also pointed out that the next generation of 3-nanometer technology is advancing as planned, and the goal is to start mass production at the Fab 18 factory in Taiwan in the second half of next year. TSMC’s investment this year will reach 30 billion U.S. dollars, and a total of 100 billion U.S. dollars in the next three years.
