Alphabet’s Wing grows drone delivery service in Australia

Alphabet’s drone delivery service Wing newly started in Logan, Queensland, Australia, began to attempt to use drones from the home of a shopping mall to “direct” goods to nearby areas. It is informed that the subsidiary combined with the Australian retail real estate group Vicinity Centres to test this new model in Logan’s Grand Plaza.

After mid-August, Wing has been flying its drones on the roof of the Grand Plaza to provide sushi, bubble tea, smoothies, and other products to shopping mall merchants. Starting today, these drones will also fulfill over-the-counter drugs and personal care, and beauty products.

Moreover, in the Wing’s drones have delivered 2,500 items to many areas in Logan City. This Alphabet subsidiary plans not only to increase its cooperative retailers in the center but also to expand its distribution coverage area.

Jesse Suskin, Wing’s director of policy and community affairs in Australia, also said that” if the Grand Plaza pilot is successful, the company can launch a similar model in other locations in the Vicinity Centres retail portfolio”.

Furthermore, Wing has been quite strong in Logan. This year alone, it has delivered more than 50,000 deliveries in the city and retained its 100,000th delivery in August last year.
