XPERIA mobile phones slowly ending zero plastic packagings: Sony

Sony’s official release, “Green Management 2025” (GM2025), which began in April 2021, is a five-year plan to achieve “Sony Goes to Zero Load” (to 2050). Mid-term environmental goals for the year. GM2025 is committed to gradually decreasing the amount of plastic in compact product packaging until the use of plastic is totally excluded.

As part of the sustainability drive, Sony said it is reducing the use of plastic in packaging by eliminating plastic accessories or replacing them with paper materials. For example, replacing the plastic film layer of Xperia 1 III with a wear-resistant varnish, and replacing the plastic sleeve of the USB cable with a paper sleeve.

Moreover, the trays in the smartphone packaging boxes are made from waste pulp from the factory through a specially designed custom mold. In order to achieve the coveted white color, the pulp used by Sony has been carefully selected and does not require bleaching.
