The two flagship phones with folding screens are expected to be unveiled in August and go on sale later in the same month. Samsung hasn’t officially set a date yet, but rumor has it that the launch will take place on August 10, and the phone will go on sale in select markets on August 26.
Samsung hopes to ship a combined 15 million of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4. Not only is the company aiming to double shipments of previous-generation foldable devices, but it also expects the Z Fold and Z Flip to be flat as a percentage of overall shipments, with the Z Fold 4 outselling the Z Flip 4.
In the first quarter of 2022, the global folding screen mobile phone market shipments reached 2.22 million units, a year-on-year increase of 571%. The Samsung Z Flip 3 has a 51% market share, while the Galaxy Z Fold 3 has a 20% share.
The price of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is expected to be lower, in order to attract more customers to buy a folding screen phone. The latest reports suggest that Samsung has increased its reliance on Chinese companies to supply components that could help its foldable phones become more affordable.
