According to iCulture, it now has a simple speaker icon with a line through it. This matches the symbol you see on your screen when you press it in macOS, making things clearer.

    For years, the old Mute key just showed a plain speaker symbol. It didn’t hint that it turns off your sound. Then, when you pressed it, a different image—a speaker with a slash—popped up on the screen. Sure, the key could mute and un-mute, but the new design makes its job obvious, kind of like the mute button on an Apple TV Remote.

    This tiny tweak ends a weird design mismatch that stuck around through tons of Mac keyboards over the years. The updated Mute key isn’t just for the MacBook Air.     Sumbul Desai, a top expert at Apple, said, “We’re thrilled to use technology to improve lives. Bringing this hearing aid option to the UK gives AirPods Pro 2 users a full hearing care experience.” She’s Apple’s vice president of Health.

    This new feature makes everyday sounds clearer for adults who feel they have mild to moderate hearing trouble. Apple says it’s free in countries where it’s offered, and it comes through simple software updates.

    The hearing aid works by using a personal hearing profile. This profile comes from a quick five-minute Hearing Test that checks how well someone hears different sound levels. After the test, users get a result showing their hearing ability and tips on what to do next. The profile also adjusts sound for music, movies, games, and calls on all connected devices.

    Apple first rolled out these hearing tools in the US and a few other places in late October with iOS 18.1. Then, in December, iOS 18.2 brought the Hearing Test to more countries like France, Italy, Spain, and the UK, plus the hearing aid feature to the United Arab Emirates. Now, UK users can enjoy both the test and the hearing aid feature.

    To use these hearing tools, AirPods Pro 2 need firmware version 7B19 or higher. The update happens on its own when the AirPods are charging and near an iPhone, iPad, or Mac with Wi-Fi. This update shows Apple’s focus on making life better with smart, simple tech. UK users can now hear the world around them more clearly, all thanks to their AirPods Pro 2.

    While Tim didn’t specify when exactly this launch would happen or give any concrete details, the post has sparked curiosity. Tech journalist Mark Gurman from Bloomberg thinks this could be the reveal of a new iPhone SE. He had earlier mentioned that we might see this phone by next week, boasting features like an A18 chip, a bigger 6.1-inch OLED screen, Face ID, a USB-C port, and support for Apple Intelligence.

    Apart from the iPhone, there’s buzz about other gadgets. People are talking about new MacBook Air, iPad Air, and basic iPad models coming out soon. There’s also chatter about new products like an updated AirTag and a fresh smart home hub expected later this year.

    Since Cook’s message feels more like a teaser than an event announcement, any new product news will likely come through press releases on the Apple Newsroom site. But, we might also see announcement videos on YouTube, similar to how Apple introduced new iMacs, Mac minis, and MacBook Pros with M4 chips last October.

The lawsuit, brought forth by Dr. Rachael Kent, a respected academic from King’s College London, argues that Apple’s control over app distribution on its iOS devices, coupled with its commission structure, constitutes a breach of UK and European competition law. This isn’t just a minor dispute; it’s a David versus Goliath battle that questions the fundamental power dynamics within the app ecosystem.  

    The core of the complaint lies in Apple’s requirement that all iOS apps be downloaded exclusively through the App Store. This exclusivity, combined with a commission of up to 30% levied on developers for in-app purchases and app sales, is seen by the plaintiffs as an unfair imposition that stifles competition and ultimately harms consumers. They argue that this “walled garden” approach limits choice and potentially inflates prices.  

    This legal action isn’t just a theoretical debate; it directly impacts millions of consumers. The lawsuit represents an estimated 19.6 million UK iPhone and iPad users who may have been overcharged for apps and in-app purchases over a significant period, from October 2015 to November 2024. The scale of this case is immense, with a vast number of individuals automatically included in the claim unless they actively choose to opt out. This reflects the UK’s legal framework, which aims to provide efficient redress for widespread consumer harm.

    Dr. Kent’s argument is compelling: while the App Store initially served as a valuable and innovative platform, streamlining access to digital services, it has evolved into a monopolistic gatekeeper. She contends that Apple has effectively blocked access to alternative app distribution platforms, preventing consumers from potentially benefiting from more competitive pricing and developers from exploring alternative business models. This lack of competition, the lawsuit claims, is detrimental to the overall health of the digital marketplace.
