Apple quits launching Arcade-based cloud gaming service

Mark Gurman, a reporter from Bloomberg recently stated in his latest issue of the “Power On” newsletter that Apple had considered launching some kind of “cloud game service” for Apple Arcade, but has now abandoned its plans.

A reader at Gurman asked him if Apple was planning a cloud gaming service based on Apple Arcade. He replied that Apple’s current gaming service is somewhat unique, and relies on running locally on the device rather than running from the cloud.

Apple has discussed the possibility of launching such services internally in the past and then dropped it. In addition, Gurman offered the position of other cloud gaming companies:

Microsoft, Nvidia, Google and other companies have launched cloud-based gaming services. However, Apple does not allow these services to appear in the App Store. This is not because they are competitors, but because Apple does not allow them to be used on local devices. Non-local cloud games (may be related to the closure of the App Store).

Reportedly, if you want to access Cloud Games on Apple’s iOS/iPad OS platform, you can only experience it indirectly through a browser, thus bypassing Apple’s official channels.
