The Epic Games Store now has more than just games

Epic Games launched its game store and launcher in December 2018 as an alternative to the hugely popular Steam platform by Valve. The company has since continued to upgrade the Epic Games Store and is no longer the only software store available on the Games Storefront.

Spotify was added to the Epic Games Store in December, which was a bit of a weird move at the time, but now Epic has launched a dedicated section for apps. There are only six apps listed at the moment, Spotify, Itch.io Launcher, iHeart Radio, Kanshape, Brave Browser, and Krita. KenShape and Krita are the only paid apps,  $3.99 and $9.99, respectively.

Like the games available through the Epic Store, there are no user reviews, so you still have to do a little research to find out if something is worth downloading. However, the store’s current installed base could make it a competitor to the Micro .ft store, which Epic CEO Tim Sweeney has criticized for years. It is rumored that Micro .ft will revamp its App Store with new apps and fewer restrictions on app and game developers.

Epic Games is still engaged in legal fights against Apple and Google over their respective app stores. Fortnite was removed from the App Store and the Google Play Store after Fortnight began to deviate from the store’s rules on in-app purchases, for which Google / Apple Plus offers relief from all revenue cuts.
