Google Chat floating bar gets a new makeover

Posted on

Google Chat is giving a new makeover to its newly added floating bottom bar. The bar currently includes a pill-shaped container with four tabs such as Home, Direct messages, Spaces, Mentions, and a new chat FAB. Whereas, in the Gmail app, it appears above the existing bottom bar for a slightly cramped UI.

But now after the recent makeover, the Google Chat Mentions icon has been removed from the floating bottom bar, and in its place, a new horizontal three-dot overflow menu has been added, which makes place for starred messages. As soon as you tap on it, you get a bottom sheet to access Mentions and Starred.

This provides quick access to starred messages but makes the UI a little medley. Accordingly, Google Chat will roll out Starred messages in the floating bar over the coming weeks to Android and iOS. Meanwhile, the redesigned Google Chat is now available in the standalone app and Gmail.
