New Google Contacts sync feature might affect your saved contacts

Posted on

Google keeps on renovating its apps and in the latest edition, the tech maker has added a new sync feature to the Contacts. This functionality might sound simple but could have major impacts on the contacts and details you have saved in your Google account.

As per the information, Google Play System May 2023 update has a bunch of enhancements, and one of them is specified for the Contacts app in the form of a sync feature. After this upgrade, if you do not turn on the synchronization ability on your Android phone, then you may lose contacts.

While we are often busy adoring new changes and improvements in Google Play Service, we need to keep an eye on the small yet useful elements as well. These tweaks can have huge influences and may create a hustle and bustle in our daily lives.

The details further hint that this change is rolling out with the Google Play Services v23.20 version. Meanwhile, this new change is available in the changelog and reads the following statement:

  • [Phone] Turning off sync with Google Contacts sync will now remove the previously synced contacts from your Android phone.

Eventually, an accidental touch on the contact sync feature of a turn-off could vanish your entire contact list. Moreover, if you are unaware of this functionality then it could be more troubling for you. Don’t worry! You still got the option to check on your saved contacts.

Initially, you need to drive into contacts.google.com to check if the contacts are present or not. If yes, then all you have to do is turn the sync feature toggle and you will have the details again on your handset. For doing so:

  • Go to the Settings app
  • Scroll down and select the Passwords & Accounts section
  • Select your Google account
  • Ensure that the google is on for Contacts and it shows a recent date.
