Google Messages read receipts icon now rolling out widely
Google Messages has received several new modifications and alterations in recent times, and the read receipts icon is one of them. The respective addition tells you when a text has been sent, delivered, and read by the receiver.
Consequently, the Android maker was implementing this change for a long while. Initially, the feature went through testing in October 2022. Thereafter, the company pushed it officially to a handful of users, just a few days ago.

In case you are unaware, Google Messages used to show a text label with every action in earlier days. For instance – Sending, Sent, Delivered, and Read. However, this is not the case anymore.
In other words, now users will be able to see some mini icons beside the text that will hint at when the message was sent, delivered, and read by the receiver. To explain these icons, Google has recently updated its support page for the Messages app.
The following points reflect what every icon means in the respective application:
- Timer: Your message is being sent
- Single check: Your message has been sent
- Double-check: Your message has been delivered
- Color-filled double-check: Your message has been read
Aside from this, the group conversations will use “Seen by…” and “Read by all” texts. As mentioned, the feature came into existence in October, last year. After that, a few users gained the visuals in the beta firmware of the app.
Currently, the company is rolling out the feature to almost every user. Till then, you can fill out the feedback form on how the feature works for you. [Messages app > Profile > Help & feedback > Send feedback]
