Google testing ‘notable badges’ in Messages for RCS conversations

Posted on

Google continues to implement new features to its applications and in the latest development, the tech giant is testing a ‘notable badges’ tweak in the Messages app for RCS conversations. These badges will signify which of the chats are eligible for the RCS services.

RCS refers to Rich Communication Services messaging. The all-new standard tool replaces the ordinary SMS and MMS facilities and will simplify sending more information in a message. In other words, users will experience enriched features, higher-resolution images, videos, and more with this advanced capability.

The US manufacturer has been working in this segment for a long time however, things are finally taking shape. Currently, Google is testing unique badges in the Messages application that will reflect which chats are eligible for RCS functionalities.

Eventually, the app shows a Message icon in the bottom-right corner of profile avatars. This icon is mainly for RCS chats including group and individual. In addition, some Dynamic Color theming is visible on the latest Message app version.

Previously, you were required to open a chat and see whether the text area contains an ‘RCS message’ or a normal ‘Text Message’. But the new change will note the following eligibility on the home page of the application. In case you are wondering why RCS is important, it will support several new features like Magic Compose that SMS usually doesn’t.

It is worth mentioning that the RCS badge is still under development and was spotted in the beta release 20230615_02_RC00. Earlier, Google showed up revamped read receipts in the conversation. And no doubt, more such enhancements will take place to the Messages app in the time ahead.
