Google Weather gets ‘Nowcast’ for more accurate weather predictions

Google has recently introduced the standalone Weather application, which now features ‘Nowcast’ for precise weather and temperature predictions. Eventually, it will show rainfall, hail, snow, and other weather-related details more accurately than before.

Earlier, we reported that the US tech giant is working on an all-new Weather app that will soon make its debut on Android smartphones. Following the Pixel Tablet and Fold launch, the respective app came into existence in a Material You Avatar and will jump into other devices later this year.

Meanwhile, the company is collecting feedback on the app to add touch-ups to its design. But aside from the layout, something more unique is the Nowcast feature in Google Weather which shows up more detailed predictions about rain, hail, and snowfall happening in the next 12 hours.

Notably, these forecasts are based on the Multi-Radar/Multi-Sensor System (MRMS) and High-Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. To be mentioned, the Nowcast inputs are being refreshed several times before displaying the exact information on the app, per hour.

Adding more details, Google will highlight a separate section above the hourly weather predictions for an active or upcoming constant precipitation event. For instance, the application shows a card note predicting the weather and a timeline reflecting the scenario in light, medium, and heavy terms.

Though the app won’t bring up the feature if there’s uncertainty or any other sudden weather change in the forecast. Currently, the newest functionality is available when searching for weather in the continental US from a mobile device. On the other hand, you can look after it in the newly launched devices that avail 26 languages in the app.
