Google is giving immense focus to emoticons these days. After the Maps application, the US tech giant is working on a new emoji reactions tweak for Gmail. Notably, the feature will be available on both Android and iOS mobile versions.
Recently, some app developers found hidden codes in the Gmail app for iOS, which ultimately hints that Google is working on an interesting emoji reactions functionality. So far, the feature is already present for other email services such as Microsoft Outlook. Perhaps, we will grab it for Gmail in the coming days.
On the flip side, some strings in Gmail for Android show a new prompt saying –
“You’re among the first Gmail users to get an emoji reaction. Soon you will be able to send emoji reactions yourself.”
While things sound quite good in this matter, this capability will hold a few limitations for both Android and iOS apps. Some of these are:
- Emails received via BCC won’t support reactions
- Encrypted messages won’t support reactions
- Email threads with “large groups” will not support reactions
- There’s a currently unspecified limit on how much you can use a single emoji reaction
- Messages can only support up to 20 emoji reactions from a single person
- Messages can only support up to 50 unique emoji reactions
Google hasn’t mentioned any specific announcement on this subject so far. In the time ahead, we may witness things taking shape in real-time.
