Now, the latest information reveals that Google has begun releasing Android 12’s Material You design for Google Maps. Material You mainly focuses on introducing new widgets, such as Drive‘s suggestion files, or updated widgets, such as Photos size.
The pill-shaped highlight in Google Maps now shows the label you’re currently viewing, but the bottom bar doesn’t seem as high as other implementations and is closer to a post-launch modification of Gmail. Meanwhile, blue tones have been used, not dynamic colors. Like the previous redesign, this should change in the coming days or weeks.
Material You adjusted changes the navigation FAB from a regular circle to a rounded square, but the positioning buttons are not changed. This was done a few days ago via a server-side update.
Moreover, other further adjustments suggested could switch the carousel to use more square chips, such as Assistant, and better spacing should appear in various menus and functions.
