Multidevice feature finally released for certain WhatsApp users

WhatsApp

This year, Facebook-turned-Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the arrival of multidevice support for WhatsApp messenger. Meanwhile, in the recent development, the makers have finally announced this feature, though with some limitations.

The new feature has been rolled out for all iOS and Android users who are using WhatsApp Business or WhatsApp Beta for Android with either version 2.21.23.10 or 2.21.23.

WhatsApp Multidevice Feature:

WhatsApp’s multi-device feature will allow users to manage the application on up to four connected devices without having to connect to a smartphone. Once the devices are linked, messages can be sent using the desktop WhatsApp app or a web-based service application.

After connecting, the desktop application will be able to securely download messages to your WhatsApp account, and personal calls and messages will be encrypted on all devices.

WhatsApp Multidevice Limitations:

As mentioned above, the feature has been released with some limitations, these are as follows:

  • Users are not allowed to drive or message from desktop, site, or web to other users with an older version of WhatsApp.
  • Users can have only one phone connected to their WhatsApp number anywhere.
  • If users do not use their phones for 14 days or more, the connected devices will be disconnected automatically.
  • This feature is not yet available on Android tablets or iPads yet, although we expect that to change soon.

How to Enable Multidevice Feature:

  • Head over the Settings tab, then select Linked Devices>Multidevice Beta>Join Beta.
  • At that point, Android smartphone users can tap the three-dot menu button on the toolbar, then select Linked Devices>Multidevice Beta>Join Beta.
  • Both sets of users need to scan the QR code found on their secondary devices in order to link it to a WhatsApp account.

The company also says users can leave the beta at any time if they choose to wait for the final, stable release. To leave Beta for multiple devices, you just need to go back to the Linked Devices section in WhatsApp settings, then tap Multidevice Beta> Leave Beta.
