On Thursday, Twitter announced that it has acquired London-based emerging group chats application Sphere for an undisclosed amount. The goal of the Twitter acquisition again is to continue to expand and improve its products and services.
The Sphere Chat application is a group messaging service focused on group chats. The company was founded by Nick Dalosio and Thomas Hargas. The former is a technology entrepreneur. At the age of 17, he sold his news app Samley to Yahoo for $30 million.

Sphere said in a blog post: “We are following Twitter’s growing investment in community building.” Following the acquisition, about 20 field employees will join Twitter, and the company will “gradually shut down” its own applications over the next month.
Sphere said that similar to many start-ups, Sphere’s original purpose was to help anyone quickly discover and share knowledge by creating a “global brain.”
In recent quarters, Twitter has apparently become more active in expanding its product range. This acquisition could integrate Sphere’s focused community functions into its social network to compete with other similar social media platforms based on private messaging.
