WhatsApp begins rolling encrypted backups for Android Beta testers
WhatsApp is working on encrypted backups, and it first appeared in March. Last month, Facebook detailed its plans to add two different options to provide additional security to your account. The latest WhatsApp has good news for those who prefer privacy, as the app finally uses end-to-end encrypted backups.

As Facebook introduced in a comprehensive blog post back in September, you can choose between a 64-bit encryption key and a cloud-based key with a personal password—whatever you prefer. Your data is still stored in Google Drive or iCloud (if you’re using iOS), but everything is encrypted before uploading.
Remember, like many other security services, if your password is lost (whether it’s a 64-bit key or a simple personal password), you’re out of luck. WhatsApp won’t be able to help you gain access, and your data will still be inaccessible.
According to WABetaInfo, the feature is available in version 2.21.21.5, although not all users may enable it at this time. It will continue rolling out several subsequent app updates, so you may need to be more patient.
