July 20, 2022: WhatsApp will let you apply message timer to existing chats

WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will allow you to apply a message timer to existing chats. After a predefined period of time, the message will automatically disappear from the chat. Previously, you could only enable hidden messages for new conversations. The latest Android beta update (version 2.22.16.8) has provided this feature to some users.

As you can see in the screenshot below, shared on WABetaInfo back in May, the default message timer is automatically applied only to new conversations. However, the new option allows you to manually select an existing chat to enable hidden messages. This setting starts automatically for all new conversations, but only works for existing manually selected chats.

July 14, 2022: WhatsApp will soon allow you to add voice messages to your status

The folks at WABetaInfo are back on WhatsApp with another inside scoop. According to a new report by WABetaInfo, in addition to sending photos, videos, GIFs and text messages to your Status, WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow you to add audio messages to your Status.

Like your photos and videos in status updates, voice messages will be end-to-end encrypted and use the same privacy and security settings as your photos and videos. The WhatsApp voicemail status update feature is still under development and is not yet available for beta testers as well. 

July 12, 2022: WhatsApp rolled out ability to use any emoji on Message Reactions

Just a few months after WhatsApp launched Emoji Reaction for its popular messaging platform, the company is now rolling out the ability to use any emoji for the feature. For clarity, responses in questions effectively allow users to use emojis to reply to a direct message.

This is mainly done by long-pressing on the message or media that users want to reply to. And then select the appropriate option to add feedback. In this case, it’s the new “plus”-shaped icon next to the options already available.

July 09, 2022: WhatsApp let you link a secondary device to your account

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on letting you sync secondary devices to your account. WhatsApp lets you link your account to another device, and they can access your account without the need for the internet. However, it’s not the same as being able to sync your messages to an account and simply log in to another device.

July 05, 2022: WhatsApp will allow users to hide their online status

WhatsApp is working on a feature that will allow users to hide their online status. The feature is being tested and was recently spotted by WABetaInfo. It will be available for Android, iOS, and WhatsApp Web users. Currently, WhatsApp allows you to hide read recipients (blue ticks) and profile pictures.
