WhatsApp Pay could soon give cashback for making payments
Previously, WhatsApp launched its payment service WhatsApp Pay in India and Brazil. While the service is still available to all users, Messenger has started to explore new features to increase acceptance.
In August of this year, WhatsApp began testing a new button in the chat bar, which pushed WhatsApp Pay forward and allowed users to make payments with a single tap. Now, it is reported that a cashback function is being developed to reward users for payment.
As per the WABetaInfo, it has seen an improvement feature in the latest version of the WhatsApp beta (v2.21.20.3). As you can see from the attached screenshot, the feature can add a new payment shortcut over the Chats tab. The shortcut says: “Get cashback on your next payment.”
Although the shortcut itself does not disclose detailed information about the refund, WABetaInfo reported that the feature will send a refund to the user within 48 hours after the user uses the application. It will be limited to UPI payments in India, and users will receive a single refund. The refund amount is currently limited to 10 rupees (approximately $0.14), but as the feature is removed from the stable version, the refund amount may change.
At present, it is not clear whether the refund function is open to all users or only to users who have not paid on WhatsApp. We hope that WhatsApp will share more information when it officially announces this feature.
If you haven’t set up WhatsApp Pay yet, let’s get started. Please note that the app is currently only available for 20 million of the 400 million WhatsApp users in India. If you are not part of the pilot program, you may not be able to set up WhatsApp Pay on your phone.
To check if it is available on your phone, tap the three-dot menu button in the upper right corner of the app and look for payment options.
