It is not the first time when WhatsApp will opt for discontinuation. Earlier also, the company has dropped the support for a few of the Android and iOS versions. The reason is that many new features deny working and functioning efficiently on the older systems.
iOS 10 and iOS 11 Devices
For the moment, iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C are the devices that are running on the iOS 10 and iOS 11 firmware. Hence, users holding these smartphones would not be able to continue with Whatsapp from October this year. Other than iOS 10 and iOS 11 devices, WhatsApp will carry on with other smartphones.
