Honda is all set to enter the EV market in India

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India ( HMSI)has confirmed its entry into the electric vehicle market in India before 2023.

HMSI’s MD and CEO Atsushi Ogata told that the company has decided to enter the rapidly growing EV market after having a detailed discussion with Honda Motor Company in Japan. While in-depth detail is yet to be finalized but” we have made a commitment to launch an EV product within the next financial year.

According to PTI, Ogata said that we will set up the feasibility study officially at our dealerships after Diwali.

Ogata elaborated further and stated that many companies, including overseas players, are entering the EV market in India because of the government’s support for investment in developing green infrastructure.

Ogata further stated: “Some customers are using electric two-wheelers for very short commutes or very flat street conditions in big cities. So such customers have started to consider such options. But I think major customer segments are preferring to keep our existing lineup because, in front of EV products, existing ICE engine specs still have a lot of positive points.”

“So far I don’t believe there will be a drastic shift from ICE engines to EVs. We are considering it because we have had the know-how of EV technology for the last several decades, so why not consider it for the Indian market.”

Ogata also confirms that the upcoming electric scooter will only add up to the company’s line in the country. There are no plans on quick-shift in the existing range of  Honda Activa and Shine. we will have our own model in the financial year 2023.

The company is also considering tapping the opportunity in the battery management system in the country.
