According to the latest report, German automakers Volkswagen and Mercedes announced that they supported the European Union’s ban on the sale of internal combustion engine vehicles after 2035.

The European Parliament met on June 8 in Strasbourg, France, and voted to approve a European Commission proposal to stop the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles in the EU from 2035, including hybrid vehicles. The ban will accelerate the transition to electric vehicles in the region.

Volkswagen and Mercedes have come out in support of the new regulation, which Volkswagen has issued in a series of statements, calling it “ambitious, but achievable” and noting that the regulation is an “ecological, technological and economical replacement for combustion engines as soon as possible. the only reasonable way,” and even praised the EU for helping “plan security for the future.”

Mercedes also praised the legislation. In a statement to the German Press Agency, Eckart von Klaeden, the group’s head of external relations, noted that Mercedes is ready to sell 100 percent of its electric vehicles by 2030, “a decision that will ensure the necessary infrastructure. The onus is on policymakers to put that in place.”

Other brands planning to achieve 100% electrification in Europe by 2035 include Ford, Stellantis, and Jaguar Land Rover. However, other brands have been less supportive of the program.
