Global chip shortage may affect Samsung’s TV business
The Covid-19 pandemic has severely affected the entire industry because every OEM is facing a shortage of chips. Due to unbalanced supply, Samsung has canceled its iconic Galaxy Note flagship this year, and new news indicates that it will cut production of another product.
According to the news, Samsung confirmed that if the global chip shortage does not stop, it may not be able to produce smart TVs. Recently, the company launched new TVs with Micro LED panels, which may increase the prices of these products if the current chip shortage continues.

Han Jong-hee, head of Samsung Electronics’ display business, said: “The entire industry is facing severe supply shortages. If this continues, we may not be able to make TVs.”
He added: “We are doing everything possible to avoid problems. Samsung Electronics has held meetings with Taiwanese chip manufacturers to reach mutually beneficial conclusions this year and next. The company is safe this year.”
Although Han Won-hee is worried about the lack of semiconductors, he confirmed that Samsung’s 146-inch micro LED mass production line is now fully operational. Samsung confirmed that this wall-mounted TV will be added to 110-inch, 70-inch, and 80-inch models later this year.
