Patron is developing 5G router supporting Verizon millimeter-wave, expected to launch in second half of this year

Verizon, the largest mobile communications service provider in the United States, confirmed that it was developing its fifth-generation (5G) mobile communications router, with the sale of KRW 1 trillion domestic parts manufacturer.

Verizon plans to launch 5G routers to its customers in the second half of this year. Partron’s new cellular business performance focusing on camera modules is expected to lead to full-scale sales.

It is reported that the 5G router being developed by Patron for Verizon distribution will support the millimeter-wave. Late last year, the Patron provided 5G routers to LG U+ in Korea with 100mm band support.

It was promoted as a government exhibition project and set up by Geumo Institute of Technology, Gumi City, Gyeongbuk. It is a fixed router used for a specific location rather than for mobile use.

The Patron 5G router with Verizon is called the Consumer (B2C) Portable Product. This is a device commonly called an ‘egg’. It allows terminal devices such as laptops and smartphones to connect to the Internet by converting 5G cellular signals transmitted in the backhaul from routers to WiFi signals.

Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg said in the keynote of the world’s largest consumer electronics exhibition ‘CES 2021’ on the 11th. “I plan to increase it to other places.” Verizon named the service using millimeter-wave frequency as 5G ultra wideband.

In November last year, Verizon said, “General consumers can use 5G ultra-wideband in 57 cities,” and “plan to increase the number of cities that can use 5G ultra-wideband to 60 by the end of 2020.” The maximum speed of the 5G Ultra-Wideband is said to be 4Gbps, which allows you to download movies or TV shows in seconds.

Partron’s 5G router is equipped with a US Qualcomm modem. Qualcomm announced in June last year that it would develop a communication module based on the Snapdragon X55 5G modem-RF system. Partron is fully involved in the cellular business starting with 5G technology.
