Report: WhatsApp may remove end-to-end encryption, will it affect users?

Posted on

WhatsApp may soon mark a full stop on end-to-end encryption to comply with the Indian government rules. In addition, the company is required to share inputs regarding the first originator of a message in favor of rising AI-led misinformation on the messaging platform.

The investigation on this matter began when deepfake videos of politicians started circulating on WhatsApp. Eventually, the Indian government instantly issued an order (under the IT Rules 2021) to the messaging company, asking about WhatsApp and its end-to-end encryption regulations.

A senior government chief said that such fake inputs can cause harm to the electoral integrity of India. Moreover, it is more subject to users’ privacy and hence, there is a need to investigate this topic from scratch. On the other hand, WhatsApp has not said anything yet. Let’s see how things revolve on this topic in the time ahead.
