Samsung Electronics grabs the second position in semiconductor sales in 2020: Gartner

Samsung Electronics ranked second in sales in the global semiconductor market. The first place went to Intel. This is the same number as the previous year.

According to market research firm Gartner, Samsung Electronics ranked second with sales of $56.97 billion last year, according to the 2020 Top 10 Global Semiconductor Market Sales. This is an increase of 7.7 percent last year. The market share based on sales is 12.5%, which is the same as the previous year.

SK Hynix achieved third. Sales were $25.3 billion, up 13.3 percent from a year earlier. Market share increased by 5.6 percent or 0.3 percentage points.

First place went to Intel last year. The sales record of 70.24 billion. This is an increase of 3.7 percent over the previous year. At the same time, the market share is 15.6 percent, a 0.6 percent decline compared to the previous year.

Micron was fourth with $22.1 billion, up 9.1 percent from a year earlier. Qualcomm, which was ranked sixth in 2019, rose 31.5 percent last year to $ 17.9 billion, ranking fifth. This was followed by Broadcom ($15.7 billion), Texas Instruments ($13.1 billion), Mediatek ($11 billion), Kioxia ($10.2 billion), Nvidia ($10.1 billion).

Compared to a year ago, MediaTek, Kioxia, and Nvidia are the three new places listed in the top ten. In the case of MediaTek, sales increased by 38.3% from 13th to 8th last year. Application processor (AP) sales are the reason for the increase in sales of 5G smartphones worldwide.

The semiconductor market size was $ 449.8 billion last year, up 7.3 percent from the previous year. Memory accounted for 44% of total semiconductor sales. In particular, NAND Flash sales were found to have reached $52.8 billion, a significant increase from 2019 ($10.2 billion).
