The world’s first 3nm GAA (Get-All-Around) process, is going to be fabricated by Samsung. But they have not yet achieved sufficient IP for 3nm process customers. Company is also planning to complete product design and quality certification with key customers in the first half of this year
According to a recent report, the foundry division of Samsung is working hard to prepare for the massive production of the 3nm GAA process in the first half of this year. But the manufacture of the IP library was not sufficient for the development of the most advanced 3nm process of Samsung Electronics.
As the company conducts quality testing for product design and mass production with major clients. If the plans go smoothly, Samsung will overtake Taiwan’s main competitor TSMC and win the title of ‘World First’ in 3nm and GAA processes. TSMC aims to mass production of 3nm process in the second half of this year.
Moreover, “As Samsung Electronics’ 3nm process customers are limited to Apple, Qualcomm and Samsung LSI segments, I know it is not adequately prepared for its IP library compared to its competitors. The work is not properly optimized,”.

Also, the number of IPs protected by the TSMC will be approximately 35,000 to 37,000. This is a tenfold increase compared to 10 years ago. On the other hand, the Samsung Electronics foundry division achieved 70 to 10,000 IPs over the same period, which is less than TSMC.
