Samsung ranked second after Xiaomi in the Indian smartphone market in 2020: IDC
IDC has published new data regarding the smartphone shipment of India in the year 2020, recording a total of 44.8 million units with a year on year decrease of 2%.
According to the latest data from market researcher IDC, among the top 5 smartphone brands, Samsung now placed in second place with 29.7 million unit shipments in India in 2020, with 20% of the total market share. The Indian smartphone market is expected to reach 150 million units by 2020, declining 1.7% after several years of growth.
Xiaomi topped the list with 41 million units shipment, a 27% of the total market share with a 6% growth decline. Samsung comes second with 29.7 million shipments, the online-heavy portfolio of the Galaxy M series, and the newly launched F-Series. While the online store recorded strong 65% growth, offline way exports fell by 28%, with a total decline of 4% by 2020.

Vivo ranked third with an 18 percent market share, exports increased by 12 percent year-on-year to 26.7 million units. Realme surpassed OPPO for the 4th with 19 million annual exports, growing by 19% by 2020. It continues to be the second-largest online seller, the leading driver in the affordable C-Series.
OPPO‘s annual growth continued to be flat YOY by 2020, focusing on the offline stores and ranked third over Xiaomi, with an affordable A Series 18% annual share.
However, IDC predicted a “stronger market acceleration” in 2021 following a recovery in the second half of 2020. In the last three months of 2020, India saw record fourth-quarter smartphone shipments with 45 million units, up 21 percent in the year 2019.
