Strategy Analytics said it was the fifth consecutive quarter of annual declines in smartphone sales. Inventory adjustments and geopolitical issues adversely affected the smartphone market in Q3 this year. At the same time, the unfavorable economic environment continued to dent consumer demand for smartphones and other discretionary items.

The report pointed out that in Q3 2022, Apple’s global iPhone shipments will be 49 million units, a year-on-year increase of 6%, accounting for 16% of the global market share. This was Apple’s highest Q3 market share in the past 12 years while leading Chinese brands were dragged down by their sluggish performance.

Moreover, Apple had a good quarter this quarter, led by the newly released iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, while demand for the iPhone 14 remains mixed. Strategy Analytics expects global smartphone shipments to decline by 9% to 10% year-on-year in 2022.
