Market research firm Canalys report shows that in the US tablet market, Samsung annual shipments increased by 4.5%. While shipments from top companies, including Apple and Amazon, declined, only Samsung showed an upward trend with the market share rising by 2.4 percent.
According to the report, Samsung’s market share was up 2.4 percentage points from a year earlier, while Apple’s fell 3.7 percent over the same period. By this Samsung took third place with 7.9 million units as the country’s key Android vendor.

However, the US tablet market recorded an overall decline last year. The first and second largest companies, Apple and Amazon, fell 17.3% and 7.9%, respectively, while shipments were down 10% compared to the previous year. Samsung Electronics was the only one of the top five companies to record growth.
This result does not reflect the sales of the recently released Galaxy Tab S8 series by Samsung. The company unveiled the Galaxy Tab S8 series in early February this year. The Galaxy Tab S8 features a 14.6-inch Ultra model in addition to the existing standard and Plus models.
And the notebook market grew overall but fell sharply in the second half of the year. In the fourth quarter of last year, U.S. Notebook shipments are down 28% from the previous year. At the same time, Chromebook shipments were down 73%. This is due to the fact that the US public education sector, the main market for Chromebooks, has reached a satisfactory level.
