Samsung was the biggest tablet brand in the EMEA region in Q4 2020: IDC

IDC has published new data regarding the tablet market in the EMEA region for the fourth quarter of 2020. The data shows Samsung was the leading seller of the tablet market in Europe, the Middle East, and the Africa region (EMEA).

According to the latest data from market research IDC (International Data Corporation) estimates that Samsung ranked first in the EMEA region’s tablet market with an export of 4 million tablets to the EMEA market during the Q4 2020 period, with a market share of 28.1%. The South Korean firm exported more than 4 million tablets during the quarter, a growth of 26.4 percent year-over-year.

The company exported 3.2 million tablets in Q4 2019, while Apple is the second-largest tablet retailer in the world in the EMEA region. The Cupertino-based brand exported 3.5 million iPods and gained 24.6 percent market share, up 17.1 percent year-over-year.

“Samsung held the first position in EMEA due to its positive and strong growth across the region and mainly driven by its presence in digitalization projects in schools in Central and Eastern European countries,” IDC said.

IDC predicts that the tablet market in Central and Eastern Europe is growing at 32.3 percent per year, while the Middle East and Africa markets grew at an annual rate of 10.3 percent and the Western European market at 7.7 percent a one-year growth.

Lenovo was third with an 18.3% share after exporting 2.6 million tablets a 152.8 percent increase compared to Q4 2019, while Huawei Technologies was fourth with a 7.7 percent stake of 1.1 million units. And Microsoft is the fifth-largest seller with a 3.2 percent share of exports of 461,000 units. In the fourth quarter of 2020, the tablet market in the EMEA segment grew 11.7 percent to 14.6 million units.
