Qualcomm, MediaTek, Apple, Samsung LSI, and Ziguang Zhanrui ranked in the top five in terms of revenue share in the smartphone application processor market.
- Qualcomm maintained its lead in the smartphone application processor market with a 40% revenue share, followed by MediaTek (26%) and Apple (25.5%).
- 5G application processor shipments will account for 55% of smartphone application processor shipments in Q2 2022.
- TSMC manufactures more than 80% of smartphone application processor shipments. In recent quarters, Samsung Foundry’s main customer Qualcomm has transferred orders to TSMC.
- Google and JLQ Technologies (a joint venture between Leadcore and Qualcomm) shipped more than 1 million smartphone application processors in Q2 2022.
Sravan Kundojjala, Director of Strategy Analytics’ Mobile Component Technology Service and report author, commented: “Qualcomm’s momentum in the premium Android segment drove its smartphone application processor revenue to grow by 41% in Q2 2022, despite a 23% decline in shipments.
Kundojjala continued: “Q2 2022 MediaTek AP quarterly revenue hit a record high, driven by a mix of high-end and ultra-high-end Dimensity 5G APs. However, due to continued weakness in Android APs in China, we expect MediaTek’s application processor shipments and revenue will decline in the second half of 2022. On the other hand, UNISOC’s shipments in Q2 2022 increased by 26% due to the continued growth of T1 4G smartphones.”
