US enables Samsung and SK Hynix to receive chip-making tools in China

The US authorities are now enabling Samsung and SK Hynix to continue getting U.S.-based chip-making tools in China. Yes, there is no more need to apply for legal licenses to get the newest equipment – thanks to the latest rules and regulations that let these firms access coveted tools.

Recently, the US Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security stated that it is updating some of its policies including the “verified end user” rules for South Samsung and SK Hynix so that they can carry out the importing of chip-making tools in China.

According to the information, Samsung Electronics makes about 40% of its NAND flash chips at its plant in Xian, China, while SK Hynix makes about 40% of its DRAM chips in Wuxi and 20% of its NAND flash chips in Dalian.
