Apple has now shared documentation that explains how developers can fully enable faster ProMotion refresh rates for their apps on iPhone 13 Pro devices. With the help of document, developers can add the provided key to an app’s Info.plist file to enable the full range of refresh rates for custom animations.

According to MacRumors, Apple has now clarified an issue that was discovered by developers, the applications were not able to use the 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate for all animations.
Apple said that all third-party applications can take full advantage of the 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate, but developers need to add an entry to the application’s Plist. The required plist entry documentation will be provided to developers soon.

Apple requires this measure to provide a higher refresh rate only to applications that will benefit from the technology, it will optimize the battery life of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
There is also a bug that affects animations built with Core Animation. Apple said it will fix the problem in the upcoming software update.
As the developers found, the standard UI animations of third-party applications will automatically be used in conjunction with ProMotion display technology, which is suitable for all applications. Applications that can benefit from faster frame rates will be able to add this support.
Currently, since the related support is limited to standard animation, there may be significant differences between interactions such as scrolling and closing pop-up windows. As developers fully support ProMotion functionality in the future, this issue will be resolved.
Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max use super retina XDR displays that support ProMotion adaptive refresh rate technology, and support an adaptive refresh rate range from 10 Hz to 120 Hz, which can provide high resolution when users need it.
